Representatives of the political party “Our Party” made accusations of “raider attack” on Balti municipality against the president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc in a news conference on January 11, IPN reports.
Deputy Mayor of Balti Igor Sheremet said that before the new administration of Balti headed by Mayor Renato Usatyi was elected, the municipality had been captured. Illegalities were committed and all kinds of unjust enrichment schemes were employed. The illegalities involved a former deputy mayor who is protected by persons from Parliament. Now this is the representative of the Government at the local level and he is trying to place obstacles in the path of the current team.
Dumitru Chubashenko, who ran for President on behalf of “Our Party” last year, said this is an unprecedented case and an attempt to control a whole town by illegal methods. The attack was staged by the central power in concert with the former administration of Balti in a move to capture the town before the parliamentary elections for which the Plahotniuc regime gets ready. The goal of these acts is to illegally remove Mayor Renato Usatyi from power and to scare his supporters so as to ultimately gain control of the municipality.
Contacted by IPN, Irina Gasca, of the press service of the Democratic Party, said the party does not comment on the statements of the representatives of “Our Party”.
