The water utility Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) is calling on residential managers to cooperate in order to solve the problems faced both by consumers and the utility and which impede the development of the water supply system in the city, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Mocreac, head of the ACC customer service department, stated at a meeting with residential managers on Wednesday that a major problem is the difference between the readings of common water meters in the basements and the meters in each apartment, which causes the utility to incur 40 million lei damages annually. He said that this money could be used to replace pipes and modernize equipment to improve services. Vladimir Mocreac said that recent verifications in apartments showed that 70 percent of the meters do not meet technical standards. Most frequent problems include the lack of security seals, improper installation and vulnerability to magnet tampering. These are precisely the problems that lead to the difference in meter readings. ACC director Constantin Becciev says a solution could be the installation of modern meters which are more accurate. Becciev gave the example of several buildings equipped with such meters and where the difference problem has been removed completely. The ACC management suggests residential managers should cooperate with the utility to identify dishonest consumers and also to inform consumers on how the difference problem affects the the development of better services.
