The Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC) recommends the broadcasters to propose programmes that will comply with the Broadcasting Code as concerns the protection of the linguistic and national cultural patrimony. ACC’s recommendations have been recently published in the “Official Monitor of Moldova”.
ACC examined the existent programme services and found that four and a half months after the Broadcasting Code came into force, a large number of broadcasters continue to operate without taking into account the provisions of the Code and especially the obligation to ensure as of January 1, 2007, a volume of their own and local programmes not smaller than 70% in the state language. The provisions, according to which culture and music programmes broadcasted in prime time should contain local production in a proportion of 60% of the weekly volume, were also violated. There are found violations regarding movies and documentaries that require dubbing-in or subtitles.
ACC requests the broadcasters that have not adjusted their programmes to the norms of the Broadcasting Code yet, to work out within one month new programmes that would comply with the legislation. After the deadline will expire, the national regulation broadcasting authority will monitor the way of implementing the new programmes, so that the broadcasters that will not comply with, will face sanctions outlined in the Code.
