The level of water in the Nistru River increased by 1 meter to 9.5 meters. The public utility SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) in a press release says this level must be at least 9.1 meters for the water pumping station in Vadul lui Voda that supplies water to Chisinau to work appropriately, IPN reports.

The company assures that there is now no danger of interruption in the supply of water. The worrisome situation was overcome following the recent rain and the intervention by Moldovan officials who examined possibilities of increasing the volume of water discharged from the reservoir in Novodnestrovsk, in concert with their Ukrainian colleagues. Thus, the volume of discharged water was increased to 300 cubic meters per second.

According to ACC, regardless of the length of the hydrological drought and the temperatures recorded in summer, the institution’s administration will look for optimal solutions to intervene in the riverbed of the Nistru, if need be, so as to increase the level of water.  In parallel, “Apa-Canal Chisinau” lays emphasis on the rehabilitation of the artesian wells and the construction of new artesian wells as an alternative source for supplying of water. This is provided in the Priority Investments Program financed by the EBRD and EIB.
