Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) and the administrators of the Chisinau housing sector started to examine the private water meters, the company’s director Constantin Becciev said at Monday’s meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The ACC director said that the checks are necessary as the company sustains enormous losses of water. The water supplier’s losses resulting from the difference in the volumes indicated by the apartment meters and those from branch pipes amount to 210 million lei. This is practically a yearly budget of the company. The losses in the apartment buildings were the meters had been checked decreased by about 15%. Today, the losses make up approximately 35% of the supplied water. In some buildings, they constitute 70%.
The water supplier set up six groups of specialists that examine the meters together with the 12 groups created by the housing sector administrators. The head of the Public Utilities Division Petru Gontea said that more groups should be set up, but Termocom and ACC do not have personnel.
A solution for reducing the losses of water is to approve regulations concerning the financing of installation of meters in apartments by fixing an additional tariff for servicing the meters. These regulations are being formulated. The Chisinau Municipal Council is to make a decision at the next meetings.
