Academy of Sciences of Moldova awards poet Grigore Vieru the title of Doctor Honoris Causa

The Supreme Council for Science and Technological Development of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) awarded poet Grigore Vieru the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy. The title was awarded for “substantial contribution to the development of literature in the space between Prut and Nistru rivers in the period when it re-entered the aesthetic path, detaching itself from ideological oppression.” Poems about earth, about motherhood, about love – are the subjects around which the literary works of Grigore Vieru are made up, considered to be very attractive forces. The famous critic and literary historian Teodor Codreanu considers Grigore Vieru to be the writer with the highest number of readers. The poet is a correspondent member of the Romanian Academy, people’s writer of the Republic of Moldova, holder of the Andersen Honorary Diploma of the International Children and Youth Book Council, laureate of the International Award for poetry “Lucian Blaga” and laureate of the Award “Opera Omnia” of the Writers’ Union of Moldova. Poet Grigore Vieru was awarded with the “Order of the Republic”, the highest distinction in our country. The award ceremony of the title Doctor Honoris Causa for Grigore Vieru will take place on August 30, at the festive session of ASM, on the national holiday “Our Language”.
