“Our conclusions do not represent an opinion, but the truth,” academician Vasile Marina, the chairman of the expert commission of the Academy of Sciences, said at the meeting of the Constitutional Court on Friday. The academician, at the request of the PL and AMN, calculated how the seats of MP should be distributed after the July 29 elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the calculation done by the Central Election Commission (CEC), the PCRM should hold 48 seats in the future Parliament, the PLDM – 18, the PL – 15, the PDM – 13 and the AMN – 7. But the expert commission calculated that the PL and AMN should have 16 and, respectively, 8 seats, while the PCRM and PLDM – 47 and 17 respectively.
Vasile Marina insisted that the calculation formula used by the academicians is correct, stressing that “in mathematics there are no subjective views”.
The AMN’s representative to the CEC Nicolae Raileanu said that the formula used by the CEC does not take into account the fact that every vote is equal.
For his part, the Commission’s secretary Iurie Ciocan said that the formula used by the CEC to calculate the number of seats is specified in the Election Code and the calculations are correct.
The expert commission of the Academy of Sciences set up at the request of the PL and AMN consists of three academicians and four habilitated doctors of mathematical sciences.
At 15.00, the Constitutional Court was still in meeting. When the deliberations are over, the Court will pass its judgment on the election outcome and the contestations filed by the political parties.
