Customs officers discovered approximately US$240,000 and €8,000 in a truck heading for Turkey at the Cahul customs post. The driver was arrested, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the attempt to smuggle money out of the country was thwarted a day ago. The truck belongs to a Moldovan businessman and was going to Turkey without freight. Following a thorough check, the money was found in the driver’s cab, in the space intended for the sound system.
Mobile phones and computation equipment were seized as a result of searches carried out at the houses of the driver and the businessman. At the driver’s home, there were also found three guns and bullets for which the suspect didn’t have licenses. These were transmitted for examination.
