IPN flow synopsis, for 25 October 2019

From ACUM (acum – means „now” in English) where to?

MP Octavian Țîcu has received the offer to take over the PUN leadership. He says he joined ACUM Bloc because he wanted to oust from power former Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc and believes that his mission is accomplished.

Farewell to arms?

Meanwhile PNL chairwoman ended her political career. Vitalia Pavlicenco argues that, since she has been acting as PNL chair, she has promoted the message of reunification with Romania. "At the end of my tenure and the mandate of the management team, elected four years ago, we find with satisfaction that several political entities have committed themselves to the same statutory unionist objective."

Home-made reckonings for winning Chisinau

In Andrei Popov’s opinion, the ACUM bloc candidate needs to mobilize the unionists, which account for 17% of the electorate. "However, he has to climb from 31%, accumulated in the first round, to 51%, which means that he has to gain 20%. Ceban only needs 10% to win. Unlike Năstase, who has decent reserves, Ceban has little potential to attract voters", explained Andrei Popov. In his opinion, the only untapped voter pool by Ion Ceban is, while keeping the disciplined socialist base, the political center voter pool.

For 2 lei one can’t have top quality

Socialist Ion Ceban and the ACUM bloc candidate, Andrei Năstase, presented their solutions to the issues of public transport and parking, during the first round of ProTV Chișinău debates. "We will have everything, but we could have had all these things four years ago. We could have solved many of these issues in that year and a half period when we did not have an elected mayor.", noted Andrei Nastase.

No! And go back to your „modest” houses

Given the lack of quorum, the General Assembly of Judges, convened on October 25, failed to appoint the composition of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). The assembly which is not recognized by the Ministry of Justice and the Superior Council of Magistracy was attended by 160-170 out of the 200 judges needed to appoint a new CSM composition.

Eternal Remembrance

Romanian Army Day was celebrated yesterday, October 25, through a military-religious ceremony held at the Romanian Heroes Cemetery in Chișinău, which was set up during the interwar period to shelter the remains of the Romanian, Austrian, French, Polish and Russian soldiers fallen in World War I. After 1941, Romanian soldiers fallen in World War II were also buried here. The cemetery was operational until 1959. Since then, the cemetery was left in ruin and at present only the monumental construction at the entrance and the foundation of the chapel are preserved.
