About one fifth of population was seriously affected by COVID-19, poll

Practically one fifth of the population was seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, while 44% was considerably affected. One fourth of the Moldovans were affected slightly, while 6% weren’t affected at all, shows the sociological survey Vox Populi that was conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The poll shows the population has a number of fears related to the pandemic. 68% of the respondents mentioned the loss of a close person, 46% - the economic recession, 42% - social distancing, while about one third – the closure of schools and kindergartens. Among fears, those interviewed also mentioned the quarantine, diminution of remittances and domestic violence.

Slightly over 45% of the respondents said the health system copes with the pandemic situation, 24.5% - rather copes, 16% – rather does not cope, while about 14% don’t know or didn’t answer.

Asked if they want to get a vaccine against the novel coronavirus, 48.8% of those polled said they do not want, while 39.2% said they want. 12% don’t know or didn’t answer.

The data show the situation on April 20. The survey based on interviews covered a sample of 1,187 respondents from 85 settlements. The margin of sampling error is +/-3%. The survey included focus groups and other analyses.
