Nearly 94% of the teaching and non-teaching staff in the capital city have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus so far, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban announced in the September 13 ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.

“Therefore, we will ensure the education process with physical presence at schools. At municipal level, we made enormous effort to reach this vaccination rate,” stated the mayor.

He noted that the municipality purchased 2,300 COVID-19 tests by a low-value contract. The municipality also has another 800 tests that were donated to it. These will all be used to test the unvaccinated education system employees.

“A rapid test was purchased by the municipality for 93 lei by the low-value contract. In health facilities, where the Government sends the teachers, educators, guards and sweepers to take a test, this costs 250-300 lei,” stated Ion Ceban.

A tender contest for buying a larger batch of tests with the money allocated from the local budget will be launched soon. Even if 94% of the education system employees got vaccinated, each education institution will receive by 100 tests to be used when need be, when someone feels sick or has symptoms of infection.

Almost 275,000 cases of COVID-19, over 111,000 of which in the municipality of Chisinau, have been recorded in Moldova by now. Of the 6,521 deaths from COVID-19, 1,953 were logged in Chisinau.

Over 1.3 million persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19, with over 730,000 of these having got both of the vaccine doses. In Chisinau, the vaccination rate is the highest – over 223,000 administered doses.
