About 900m lei allocated from health insurance funds in 2020 for fighting COVID-19

Approximately 900 million lei was allocated from the mandatory health insurance funds in 2020 for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 862 million lei of this was allocated from the basic fund for covering diagnostic and treatment medical services intended for persons with COVID-19, IPN reports, quoting of the National Health Insurance Company.

Almost 11 million lei was earmarked for performing COVID-19 tests, while over 327 million lei for paying the 100% bonus to the salary of healthcare workers involved in the fight against the novel coronavirus. More than 37 million lei was allocated for purchasing test kits, face masks and gloves.

According to the Company, all the citizens confirmed with COVID-19, including the medically uninsured ones, benefit from free medical assistance that is covered with money from the mandatory health insurance funds. This includes pre-hospital emergency, primary, ambulatory and hospital assistance and compensated drugs for treating at home mild and moderate forms of COVID-19.
