About 7,000 trees to be planted in Chisinau Saturday

About 7,000 trees will be planted in Chisinau on Saturday, on the first day of the national tree-planting campaign themed “A Tree for Our Everlastingness”. Municipal workers, including councilmen, engaged today in volunteer work in all the districts of the city. Chisinau’s chief arborist Eliferie Haruta has told Info-Prim Neo the intention is to plant a total 9,500 trees of various species, including linden and acacia, as well as shrubs. The efforts include trimming and downing of hazardous trees. The money for the young trees was allocated from the Environmental Fund. “We have a very green city and the municipality is doing everything to keep it so”, said Eliferie Haruta. Councilman Oleg Cernei came to plant trees at the La Izvor Park along with his son. “This initiative is very welcome. We participate in such events every year, but of course there is a problem related to the culture of out citizens. A great part of the young trees planted today will probably be taken down in a couple of days. Our efforts must be supported by the culture of the citizens; they should preserve what we have planted”, said Oleg Cernei.
