About 40,000 tourists annually visit museums of Moldovan area of the Danube

The museums and tourist information centers located in the Moldovan area of the Danube are annually visited by almost 40,000 tourists, which is 5% of all the visitors of the country. The tourists come to familiarize themselves with the traditions and values of this area, which is a multicultural destination. The data were presented by the head of the Association for the Development of Tourism in Moldova Viorel Miron on January 22.

Viorel Miron told a news conference at IPN that more than 184,000 people arrive annually in the Moldovan area of the Danube. They cross it without knowing it or without seeing something here. In the area covering the districts Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, one can admire the greatest European river, the largest natural lakes of the country, one of the greatest natural reserves, the largest village and the widest ethnic diversity in Moldova.

There are 16 museums in the area and the tourists benefit from the services of 26 professional guides. The visitors can use a wide range of services such as individual or group trips, exhibitions, cultural-scientific activities, thematic lectures, seminars, etc. The managers of the local museums said they annually organize about 2,000 events, mainly trips and thematic lectures.

The museums with ethnographic features attract most of the visitors. Together with these, the 11 museums representing the cultural heritage of the Gagauz people and Bulgarians living here are visited by 56% of the tourists coming to this area.

The museums of the area are situated in Cahul, Giurgiulesti, Slobozia Mare, Valeni, Branza, Cantemir, Stoianovca, Taraclia, Corten, Tvardita, Cairaclia, Vinogradovca, Comrat, and Besalma.
