On Monday and on the night to Tuesday, rescuers performed about 40 missions to tow away vehicles that got stuck in snowdrifts. Seven ambulances in Chisinau, Drochia, Hancesti, Leova and Straseni districts also experienced difficulties in traveling. Police officers and carabineers also helped drivers trapped in the snow, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that almost 6,400 calls were made to the 112 Emergency Service during the last 24 hours and about 2,700 case files were opened. Over 1,900 calls were forwarded to the ambulance service, 628 to the police, while 145 to rescuers and firefighters.

On Tuesday, 2,600 specialists with more than 1,000 special vehicles have been involved in works to remedy the situation in the country following the heavy snowfalls and sleet.

On all national, regional and local roads, the snow removal and antiskid material spreading works continue. The vehicles on national roads move in winter conditions.

The ferry in Molovata, which connects the two banks of the Nistru River, resumed its normal work program.

Electricity suppliers said that 40 localities remain partially disconnected from the power supply at present.

According to the State Weather Service, the severe weather was brought by a southern cyclone and a polar air mass that are crossing the country’s territory.
