About 40 documentaries to be screened at VI Cronograf Festival

The inauguration of the VI edition of the International Documentary Film Festival “Cronograf” will take place on May 1, at 18.00, in Chisinau. The festival will start with a documentary dedicated in loving memory to the late poet, scientist and statesman Ion Vatamanu, on the occasion of his 70th anniversary. The film is an OWH TV Studio production, directed by Leontina Vatamanu, the poet’s daughter. According to Victoria Coroban, media representative of the Festival, the new cadRO section, dedicated to films about Romanians from all over the world, will be presented the movies “Are We Coming Here Again Tomorrow?” (Moldova), “Son of yhe Earth” (Romania), “Emil Loteanu. Gypsy Waltz” (Russia), “The Bridge over Tisa” (Romania), “Together Illegal” (Germany), “Where Do You Play Monopoly” (USA), “Strasbourg World Convention” (Romania), “Bubi & Bica” (Canada), “Mother Eva’s Life” (Serbia), “A Strange Christmas” (France), “My Beloved Horses” (Serbia), “The Bride and Groom’s Bath” (Romania), “The 14th Night in the Month of Nissan” (Moldova). The “Documentary Film Section” will include the films “Pickles” (Israel), “An Application as Self-portrait”, (Germany), “Growing Up” (China), “Being Yourself” (Denmark), “The Film Class” (Israel), “On the Road” (Poland), “Chacipe” (Czech Republic), “A Shift in Perception” (Australia), “San Sanych” (Moldova), “Akhmeteli Street No.4 ” (Georgia), “Even if she had been a criminal” (France), “With Much Love and Kisses” (Russia), “A Few Things About Queen Marie” (Romania), “Onomatopoeia” (Germany), “Estonians in Siberia” (Estonia), “Pavlov’s Dogs” (Russia), “Moldovan Thai”(England), “Street Punk Moscow” (Germany & Russia), “1%” (Germany), “Freedom Test” (Moldova), “People from Romania” (Romania), “9 Star Hotel” (Israel), “Dear Father” (Germany & Israel), “Behind the Silence” (Romania), “Calling – a War Cameraman” (Estonia), “Everyday life of Gipsy children from Block 71” (Serbia). Besides the contest films, on May 2, 3, 4, from 10.00 to 21.00, several special events are prepared. On May 2, at 20.30 the public is invited to the premiere of the one-minute films produced by the young participants in the International Video Laboratory 2007, organized by OWH TV Studio. On May 4, outside the contest, at 19.30 the film “cuvinte.ro” (“words.ro”) produced by Violeta Gorgos will be shown for the first time in Moldova. On May 5 in the morning the public will be able to see the productions of the local filmmakers included in the Local Studios Productions Section, followed by The Day of the German Film, event organized with the support of the Bucharest-based Goethe Institute. The festival will end up on May 5 with the Awards Ceremony when the trophies and the prizes for the festival will be offered. Velentin Virtuousu is the sculptor of the trophies. This year for the first time at Cronograf a Special Award for Life Achievements will be offered. The German Embassy and Amadeus Travel Lufthansa City Center will offer a Special Prize for the Best Film from Moldova. There are 4 films produced in Moldova participating in the contest, two in the main section and two in cadRO. Almost 40 films from 18 different countries will be projected in those two sections of the international contest: Documentary Film and cadRO, along with some special events and projections out of competition, that count totally almost 30 hours of projections. “Cronograf” Festival is organized by OWH TV Studio in collaboration with the Union of Filmmakers, TV 5 Monde and the French Alliance Moldova.
