During the first month of the abolition of the visa requirements, about 36,000 Moldovans holding biometric passports went to the EU visa-free, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Border Police.

Most of the Moldovans chose to cross the border through the Leuseni customs posts (14,500). A number of 4,700 Moldovans holding biometric passports left Moldova through the Chisinau International Airport, while another about 4,700 Moldovans went to the EU through the Sculeni customs post.

Of the total number of Moldovans who went to the EU visa-free, 12,700 left the country through the Moldovan-Romanian border crossing points and the Chisinau International Airport, presenting only biometric passports.

Nine Moldovans holding biometric passports were not allowed to leave Moldova for the reason that they didn’t meet the conditions for entering the EU.

During a month, the number of Moldovans who left the country with both biometric and non-biometric passports increased by about 20% compared with the corresponding period last year. From April 28 until May 28, there were recorded about 180,000 border crossings out of Moldova.
