Almost 362,000 people living on the left side of the Nistru and in the municipality of Bender were on the State Population Register on December 31, 2022. Out of these, aporximately 352,000 held the nationality of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
Making reference to the Public Services Agency, the Reintegration Policies Bureau said that over 328,000 Transnistrians hold Moldovan passports, while over 293,000 hold Moldovan identity cards.
As many as 6 395 citizens of the Transnistrian region benefitted from concessions when applying for the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, in August 2021 – December 2022, while 501 citizens benefitted from concessions when applying for the temporary identity card.
It should be noted that according to the simplified procedure for obtaining Moldovan nationality (based on the written consent and on civil status documents showing they were born on the country’s territory), 32,349 inhabitants of the region were recognized as citizens of the Republic of Moldova between April 19, 2018 and December 31, 2022. Out of these, 22,291 (about 69%) are people living on the left side of the Nistru and in the municipality of Bender who earlier obtained Moldovan IDs.
In 2022, 10,711 persons from the Transnistrian region applied for civil status certificates, they being issued with 11,653 certificates and 6,625 copies based on repeated applications.
