The Government of the Republic of Moldova allocated 20 million lei for ensuring the quality of the education process in general education institutions. Approximately 2,500 laptops are to be supplied to schools by October, Minister of Education Igor Sharov stated in a press briefing, being quoted by IPN.
The minister noted that US$3.5 million was identified within the World Bank-funded Moldova Education Reform Project for purchasing laptops for the national education system. The winner of the contest to deliver over 11,500 laptops was identified and the contract with this is to be signed soon, after WB experts examine the purchase.
According to Igor Sharov, since the start of the pandemic, the Ministry of Education has set three priories, namely: equipment of the education system, digital training of teachers who do not have computer skills and ensuring of access to the Internet. The national schools are now fully connected to the Internet.
As many as 2,216 units of computing equipment were bought with funds of the local public authorities and the education institutions in the course of 2020. On July 1, 2020, the Ministry of Education launched the nationwide campaign “Donate a Computer for Education” as part of which 1,136 computers, laptops and tablet PCs were collected.
The general, primary and secondary education institutions now have over 38,000 units of computing equipment. The Ministry of Education by the end of this year will transmit another 20,000 computers, laptops and tablet PCs.
