The authorities plan to purchase about 2,300 video cameras that will be placed in the polling places that will be established for the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections. In the November 14 meeting, the Central Election Commission (CEC) agreed the technical characteristics for the video recording system, IPN reports.
The Commission’s president Alina Russu said it is a recording system, not yet a surveillance system. The video camera will be set up on the ballot box and will then record the vote count.
The functioning of the video cameras will be regulated by a normative document adopted by the CEC. The Commission’s procurement group will launch the required procedures for purchasing the about 2,300 video cameras.
A number of 2,073 polling places were established for the parliamentary elections of 2014. Of these, 95 were opened abroad.
In the same meeting, the CEC approved its expenditure estimate for 2019. The budget for current activities and procurement of goods and services, including for budgetary subsidies for political parties estimated at 40 million lei for this year, is 57.2 million.
The Commission also approved the expenditure estimate for the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 at 110.2 million lei. The expenditure estimate for the local general elections of next year was set at 139.9 million lei.
