Six employees of the Public Services Agency (PSA), of the Balti and Chisinau offices, were arrested for putting into practice a scheme for illegally collecting money from persons applying for a driver’s licenses. The sums asked for a license varied from €00 to €1,200 and about €20,000 a month was collected for bribing persons in charge from the PSA, IPN reports, with reference to the National Anticorruption Center.
The police and anticorruption officers on Tuesday carried out nearly 20 searches in vehicle registration and driver qualification offices in Balti, in cars and at the homes of employees suspected of involvement in the driver’s licenses issuing scam.
There were seized drafts with identification data of applicants, copies of IDs, amounts totaling €30,000 and 20,000 lei, mobile phones and illegally held firearms.
One of the six persons, of a Chisinau PSA office, was caught in the act of attempting to leave the Republic of Moldova. A sum of €13,000 was found in his car, hidden under the hood.
