Approximately 2,000 students from ten settlements located in northern Moldova will carry out a cleanup campaign at their native place on September 23. The event forms part of the regional campaign “Waste management in my settlement” that is conducted by the Association “Caroma Nord”.
The company’s executive director Rodica Frecautanu has told IPN that the local campaign is staged following the holding of a series of seminars on waste management in the northern districts. The participants in the seminars were informed about opportunities of attracting different European projects for collecting and recycling waste.
Now, on the World Cleanup Day, the participants in those seminars take part in cleanup activities in their settlements. Rodica Frecautanu said there will be also cleaned two rivulets – Camenca and Caldarusa. The waste collected in some of the settlements will be taken to waste dumps. They want to stimulate the implementation of more waste collection and recycling projects and strategies and to sensitize the local authorities so that these make effort and promote such projects.
Maria Vacarciuc, director of the Social Center “Nuaărul Alb” and head of the public organization “Modern village” in Glinjeni, Falesti district, said that by taking part in this event they want to cultivate the love for nature and greater care for the environment in young people. “We want to warn the children against burning leaves in autumn as damage is caused by such an act. The children expressed their readiness to take part in the cleanup campaign,” she stated, noting that no waste collection project is implemented in their settlement, but they want such a thing to be done.
Natalia Tolici, PR specialist of the mayor’s office of Bahrinesti village of Floresti district, said the local authorities support all the initiatives that are for the community’s benefit. There is no waste collection system in the village and the local authorities make effort to attract a project to set up garbage cans at the gates of each household. The villagers are ready to pay a particular sum for the waste to be collected.
The cleanup activities start at different hours, in the afternoon. Besides the rivulets Camenca and Caldarusa, there will be cleaned the entrances and centers of villages, the cemeteries, parks and other places.
