In the Republic of Moldova, the non-compliant food products that cannot be subject to technological processing, such as the vegetal products, are destroyed. But the products of animal origin and some products of non-animal origin are processed technologically at companies that produce combined fodder for pets, poultry and fish.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the National Food Safety Agency said about 200 tonnes of food products were withdrawn from circulation so far this year and were destroyed or processed for making food for animals.
The Agency’s inspectors withdrew meat, milk, dairy products, vegetables and other products. The food products are excluded from circulation as a result of official inspections carried out at production units, retail outlets, public eating places and agricultural markets. Inspections are also performed at the request of other inspection bodies and of producers, importers and traders.
If the inspectors identify products without sanitary-veterinary certificates, safety and quality certificates or products with the use-by date expired or without the required markings, the company is fined up to 3,000 lei.
Currently, the Contravention Code is being modified and the fines are expected to be heavier.
