193 people, including 8 minors, were held up last night, April 8, in the center of the capital, Info-Prim Neo has been told by the Interior Ministry's spokeswoman, Ala Meleca. According to her, after midnight, scores of demonstrators intoxicated with alcohol and drugs attacked companies and stores on Pushkin street. The police had to intervene and used rubber bullets. “Evidence is being gathered and some protesters will be fined or jailed,” Ala Meleca said. She says on April 7, 96 police were treated for injuries, 43 of which stay in hospital. A policeman is in a severe condition. On the other hand, sources from the Interior Ministry's hospital have told Info-Prim Neo there are over 100 policemen treated, their state being assess as satisfactory. Two police are in a grave state, but feel better than yesterday. The protests started on April 6 against the results of the elections, and took a violent turn on Tuesday. Both demonstrators and police got injured in altercations. The protesters entered the Parliament by force and started to destroy offices, furniture and equipment, as some offices were set on fire. The police used tear gas, but had to retreat when the protesters retorted with stones and inflaming bottles. The police took hold of the parliament and presidential palace only during the night. The ruling Communists accuse the opposition of the protests, but the latter rejects the charges, maintaining it's a provocation.
