Approximately 200 stray dogs will be spayed in Chisinau during ten days in the framework of a project implemented by the Animal Protection Section of the Public Amenities Division in concert with the International Organization “Four Paws” of Austria and a veterinary clinic of Chisinau.

Karl Luganov, senior specialist of the aforementioned Section, has told IPN that female dogs will be primarily neutered. These will be taken from the Chisinau Necropolis that houses about 600 stray dogs and from privately owned shelters. Dogs will also be caught from the street, primarily in Ciocana district, where the number of stray dogs is the highest. Cats without an owner could also be spayed as part of this project.

The animals will be caught, sterilized, microchipped and vaccinated against rabies and will be then set free in the places where they were caught.

The team of “Four Paws” consists of three vets from Bulgaria and one vet from Ukraine. The representatives of the organization, who are in Chisinau on a visit in connection with the animal neutering project, also plan to carry out other activities. Among them are the signing of a cooperation agreement, visits to animal shelters, meetings with volunteers and with representatives of NGOs working in the field and teaching of a lesson on the relationship with animals, including stray ones, in one of the schools.

Karl Luganov noted that the Animal Protection Section of the Public Amenities Division has cooperated with “Four Paws” for a period, but the coming of its representatives to Moldova became possible only now given the pandemic situation. “Four Paws” is an international organization with rich experience in solving problems related to stray dogs.
