The Board of the Ministry of Education approved the plan for organizing the summer vacation of the school students, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valentin Crudu, the head of the Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education Division, said this year they aim to better organize the summer vacation. “We will more seriously address this issue as many summer camps in 2009 worked without documents and in inadmissible sanitary conditions,” he said. Crudu also said that children from the districts of Ialoveni, Basarabeasca, Leova and Cantemir could not go at least to day camps last year. “We will ask the heads of these districts to identify places where the children could spend the vacation, possibly in other districts,” he added. The Ministry of Education does not yet know the number of children who will go to summer camps this year. “The local public authorities are to tell us how many financial resources and places they have and how many teachers they will need,” Crudu said. About 17 million lei was earmarked in the state budget for organizing the summer vacation of the students. The summer camps for students will be selected by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family by a tender contest. The Ministry will purchase tickets for summer camps and will distribute them to children through the social assistance divisions of the district councils in cooperation with the district eduction departments. The summer camps will be open between June 5 and August 25. In May, the Ministry of Education will hold a meeting with summer camp directors. According to Valentin Crudu, there are about 100 summer camps in Moldova. Only 67 of them worked last year.
