Approximately 150 persons expressed their dissatisfaction with the sale of the state-owned holding in Banca de Economii and the concession of the Chisinau International Airport in front of the Government Building on Wednesday. They said that the authorities cause serious damage to the state and the people and demanded that the Cabinet stop the privatization. The protesters offered the ministers a jar (translated as ‘bank’ from Romanian), asking for the bank for the people instead, IPN reports.
The head of the youth organization of the People’s Party of Moldova (PPRM) Ian Lisnevschi said the privatization of important state companies represents a blow. “The Government, which promised to defend the rights of the people and the state, intends to denationalize about 200 companies at a very low price,” he stated.
First deputy head of the party’s youth organization Maxim Braila said that the current Cabinet will soon leave and will leave behind a state full of debts and without jobs and incomes. “We will not tolerate the actions of the current ministers and lawmakers,” he said.
On September 10, the People’s Party of Moldova called on President Nicolae Timofti to immediately convene the Supreme Council and on Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin to order examining the legality of the actions taken by the Government in the case of the Chisinau airport and Banca de Economii.
