About 13,000 will be invested in the creation of a social crèche in Balti town for 12 children from social deprived families younger than three. The money was collected through an online platform within the fundraising campaign Purpose of Fasting that was launched by CCF Moldova – Child, Community, Family. The sum of direct contributions, which is of over €6,000, was doubled by the EBRD Community Initiative, IPN reports.
The works to repair and outfit the crèche will be initiated in the near future. The local public authorities of Balti municipality will later take over and finance the service to ensure its sustainability and functionality. Hope and Homes for Children UK will complete the necessary sum, according to the final estimates and needs of the project.
The online platform worked in the form of a virtual restaurant where the people were encouraged to choose the favorite dishes and not to eat them during a day or more so as to donate their equivalent value in support of the creation of the social crèche.
The campaign was launched on March 13 and was to end immediately after Easter, but donations continued to come and the campaign was closed on April 30.
According to the organizers, the campaign Purpose of Fasting will become a tradition and will take place during all the fasting periods of the year.
In Moldova, there are seven social crèches, five of which were created with support from CCF Moldova.
