The abolition of the visa requirements for Moldovans by the EU has a historical significance for Moldova’s future. The Green Party, which is the only party in Romania that is a member of the European Greens, welcomes the firm decision of the Moldovan authorities to detach themselves from Russia’s influence and the Soviet past, it is said in a communiqué issued by the party, IPN reports.

According to the party, the abolition of visas is the second important moment for Moldova, after the proclamation of the country’s independence, that considerably marks its European course.

Andrei Dumbraveanu, the Green Party’s candidate from Moldova for the May 25 European parliamentary elections, said the visa-free regime represents the most important step towards removing the obstacles faced on the path to the EU. “It is a regime that enables the people to come closer and that facilitates comprehension of the human values, without bureaucratic formalities. It is a start that confirms the trust and equality between brothers, equality between the peoples of the European Union,” he stated.

According to Andrei Dumbraveanu, now that the Moldovans are able to travel visa-free in the EU, they will be able to discover faith, dignity, responsibility for the nation’s future and freedoms without borders.

Starting with April 28, the Moldovans holding biometric passports can travel freely in the EU for 90 days during half a year. Visas are still required for entering the UK and Ireland.
