A study of Moldovan-Czech relations offers six proposals for investment projects in Moldova

People in Moldova consider that the cheap work is the basis of the economic development, which is not true. In particular, in Chisinau salaries amount to USD 300-350, which is not that bad, Czech Ambassador to Moldova Petr Kypr said on Monday while presenting “The Analysis of the Moldovan-Czech relations: obstacles and opportunities for the improvement of bilateral trade and increased investments”. According to him, the capacity to purchase real estate and cars has lately increased in Moldova. This is good for the Czech Republic, because it exports Skoda vehicles to Moldova, but this trend should be strengthened. It is necessary to educate people in order to determine them to make money and invest them correctly. “I think that this study will be a guide for the Moldovan entrepreneurs”. Executive director of the Analytic Centre “Expert-Grup” Valeriu Prohnitchi said that the study aims at intensifying the Moldovan-Czech relations, especially in economic development in light of the European integration aspiration. Prohnitchi says that the Moldovans have what to learn from the Czechs, especially in stimulating small business as well as the export infrastructure. An important fact is that the Czech Republic will hold the EU Presidency in 2009. The expert of the Czech Institute of Economic Studies of the “Carol” University, Michal Mejstik, emphasised that the study which was worked out for Moldova aims at finding new opportunities. “It is a step forward and we believe this country has potential. We hope this study will open the eyes of many entrepreneurs in Moldova”, he said. The study analyses the evolutions during the transition period. Also, the experts analysed the problems related to exports to the Czech Republic, obstacles faced by the Moldovan companies, as well as the positive aspects of the mutual collaboration. At the same time, the study offers six proposals for attracting investment projects to Moldova. The Study “Analysis of the Moldovan-Czech relations: obstacles and opportunities for the improvement of bilateral trade and increased investments” was worked out within the project “Strengthening economic development policies by creating a “Moldovan-Czech partnership” The project was implemented together with the Independent Analytic Centre “Expert-Grup” and the Czech-based consultancy company EEIP. The project was financed by Soros Foundation – Moldova and Open Society Foundation – Prague, within East-East Programme.
