An institutional reform of all the state institutors involved in working our polices (drafting, management and inspection) in the field of management of natural renewable energy sources is needed and this should be completed, the head of the National Environmental Center Ina Coșeru stated in a news conference at IPN.

Ina Coșeru noted that as long as the forestry agency Moldsilva is under self-management, the felling works that are described as illegal in the public sphere will continue. The suspicious authorizations for tree felling should be examined. In the medium term, the national system of wood monitoring, exploitation and transportation should be changed by implementing instruments accessible to the whole society such as forest radar, separation of wood assessment activity from wood exploitation activity and revision of state institutions’ functional powers concerning renewable energy sources.

Ina Coșeru called on the population to report detected illegalities, including felling works, through the EcoAlert platform.

In the name of the environmental NGOs, the head of the National Environmental Center has launched a platform for discussions with the participation of all the interested factors, through which to take decisions over problems related to the management of the natural renewable energy sources of the forest stock. Ina Coșeru called upon the players from this sector to discuss the issues as broadly as possible so as to ensure transparency in the management of resources and to identify solutions for overcoming the crisis in the forest sector.

Anna Cazacu, legal consultant at the EcoContact Association, said the Ministry of Financed should find financial resources for restoring the forests and the forest stock and should support the institutors that manage this stock so as to extend the wooded areas. A transparent reform of the institutions that manage the forest stock is needed. The selection of the wooded areas where trees are to be cut downs is often left to the discretion of the institutors managed by Moldsilva.

The International Day of Forests is celebrated on March 21.
