A number of European officials to visit Moldova next week

The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Egidijus Vareikis and Maryvonne Blondin, will be visiting Moldova during April 2-5 this year. The European officials will assess the fulfillment by Moldova of the obligations and commitments assumed before the Council of Europe, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the two officials will collect facts about the political developments in Moldova, the preparations for the parliamentary elections and the legislative amendments concerning democracy, the rule of law and human rights. They will have meetings with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and chairpersons of the standing parliamentary commissions and groups. The agenda of the visit also includes discussions in the Government Building, the Presidential Office, the National Anticorruption Center, the Central Election Commission, the National Bank of Moldova, the Broadcasting Coordination Council, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Constitutional Court and with representatives of civil society and extraparliamentary parties.

A delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Budgets consisting of 13 MEPs will be paying a visit to Moldova during April 3-6. The MEPs will assess the implementation level of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement and will monitor the efficiency in utilizing the EU financial support. The delegation is headed by Laima Liucija Andrikienė and Siegfried Muresan.

On April 5, the legislature will host a meeting of the Moldova - EU Parliamentary Association Committee that is to adopt a statement with recommendations addressed to the Moldovan authorities and European institutions. In the meeting, the Moldovan MPs and the MEPs will exchange opinions on the EU – Moldova relations and the results achieved in implementing the Association Agreement and in doing reforms in different areas.
