A kindergarten named “Povestea”, or Fairy Tale, in Nisporeni town will have eco-friendly hot water after a solar panel-based system was inaugurated today there.

The system was installed with the help of the EU-funded “Energy and Biomass” Project and cost 84,500 euros.

The solar system replaced the old, natural gas-powered heater. The new system has a capacity of 4,000 liters per day and features automatic controllers that prevents overheating during hot days or bacteria growth when temperatures get too low.

The new heating system provides alternatives: should the daily capacity of the solar panels run out, the kindergarten can always switch to biomass or electricity to produce hot water.

A further 15,000 euros was used to improve the institution’s energy efficiency: 2,500 square meters of walls were insulated as well as the roof, and the old windows were replaced with glazed PVC windows.

The Fairy Tale kindergarten is attended by over 270 children.
