A man from the village of Sireți, Straseni district, burned to death after allegedly setting his house on fire. Authorities report that he had repeatedly threatened to end his life by self-immolation, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) stated that two firefighting and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that the flames had engulfed several household items inside the house and half of the roof.

During the intervention, firefighters discovered the charred body of the 53-year-old homeowner. Initial investigations conducted by IGSU specialists determined that the fire was intentionally set. "The act was allegedly carried out by the homeowner, who, according to witnesses, had repeatedly threatened to end his life by setting himself on fire. The exact circumstances of the case will be determined by law enforcement authorities," IGSU noted.

Another fire, which resulted in the death of an elderly woman, occurred in the capital, on Muncesti Road. Thick smoke was seen coming from the third floor of a nine-story residential building. Four firefighting crews responded to the emergency. The owner, an 85-year-old woman, was found unconscious and showing signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

IGSU specialists explained that the most likely cause of the fire was an unattended gas stove, which ignited nearby combustible materials. Further details are still being investigated.

According to IGSU statistics, 198 fires have been recorded since the beginning of this year, resulting in 16 deaths.
