The resignation of Balti Mayor Alexandr Petkov was requested today by several municipal councilors during an extraordinary meeting. They stated that the mayor is not fulfilling his duties effectively and is failing to carry out his responsibilities, IPN reports.

Representatives of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) in Balti expressed outrage over the fact that Mayor Alexandr Petkov claimed he was unaware of what was happening at City Hall. "The mayor's team has accepted dubious individuals into the Balti City Hall, even with Mayor Petkov’s support," PAS councilors added.

Several members of the Balti Municipal Council urged Alexandr Petkov to submit his resignation, arguing that he is not performing his duties efficiently and should not hold a position he cannot manage.

In response, Alexandr Petkov wrote on his Facebook page: "Today, during the Council meeting, that part of the Chaos Coalition (PAS + PSRM + Grigorishin) was particularly active—those who do not even have the moral right to speak about the fight against corruption. To hide their crimes, they staged a circus in the Council."

The mayor assured that he will intensify his efforts in the fight against corruption in Bălți and that he will not tolerate any suspicion of corruption.

The extraordinary meeting was convened at the initiative of Mayor Alexandr Petkov to decide whether to dismiss or retain Deputy Mayor Tatiana Dubitkaia, who is currently under 30-day arrest, accused of influence peddling, passive corruption, and active corruption.
