The quality of the Romanian language spoken now in Moldova is very different from that spoken 15 years ago and things continue to improve. The little ones speak even better than the grownups as they grow by watching animated cartoons and movies on Romanian channels dubbed into a correct language, said Valeriu Culev, scientific researcher at the National Terminology Center of the Philology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

The researcher has told IPN that the people in Moldova most often make mistakes when they translate something from Russian as they formulate sentences by the Russian model. The mistaken speech is used because not everyone is cultured and the people do not read enough. The language is filled with verbal ‘garbage’. An incorrect way of expression was prompted,” said Valeriu Culev, noting that the media should be very careful not to promote erroneous expression models.

“The people, if they want to speak the Romanian language well, without mistakes, must control their way of expression. But there is no language that is spoken perfectly by all the speakers. There are anyway incorrect variants. Usage decides which forms remains,” stated the researcher.

He considers that the people should consult the Dictionary of Language Mistakes. The correct speech is learned by perseverance and humor.

However, Valeriu Culev considers that an enormous leap was made compared to 15 years ago. The people say a “Minimax” (TV channel with animated cartoons dubbed into Romanian – e.n.) generation is growing in Moldova. The children assimilate easily and learn correctly the language if they have such models. The movies must be dubbed into Romanian so that the people hear how the words should be pronounced. The Internet now promotes a more contaminated language than the media as everyone writes how they can on social networking sites.

The Our Language Day is marked in Moldova on August 31.
