The educational center “Pro Didactica” is launching the project “School Communities in Action: Creation of Conditions at School for Children from Socially Underprivileged Families”, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on Monday, project director Rima Bezede said the goal of the project is to support the rural schools by creating better conditions for attending primary and secondary schools for children from socially deprived families. The project involves 50 schools that were selected by a specialized commission with the participation of district school divisions. Priority was given to the schools from the villages affected by this summer's floods. The project's budget is almost US$1 million. The grants represent over 80% of the budget. They will be used to purchase clothes, footwear, school supplies, etc. A part of the money will go to support extracurricular activities. The second part of the project focuses on the development of the professional abilities of the teachers that will be engaged in training programs. The two-year project is financed by the Open Society Institute of Budapest and the Emergency Fund. The activities will start in December. According to the data presented in the conference, the children make up 1/3 of Moldova's population that is affected by poverty.
