Doctors were tested positive for COVID-19 in Moldova after they ignored the security measures. Besides, a part of them became infected in the community, not at the workplace and there is pertinent evidence, said the director of the National Food Safety Agency Nicolae Furtună.

As to the death toll from COVID-19 in the country, the official said most of those who died suffered also from other diseases. “99% of the casualties were persons who had by at least one more disease. Only several persons didn’t have associated diseases. Most of the victims had very serious associated diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. The cardiovascular diseases were present in over 80% of the cases. The associated diseases contributed to the death of those who suffered from COVID-19,” IPN quoted Nicolae Furtună as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

He also said that the relaxations following the lifting of the state of emergency were decided too earlier and this is his opinion not as a public functionary, but as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. “We never had patience. We can never prioritize things,” he stated.

As to the eventual permission for the hospitality industry to resume work, Nicolae Furtună said everything depends on the number of infections. “The risk is very big. The terraces should be organized. Those who have by ten tables at a terrace should halve their number and four persons cannot sit now at a table. One cannot wear a mask at a terrace, either they drink tea or coffee or eat borsch. If an infected person come and stays one meter from me and I contract the virus, will the terrace pay damages for me? No, it will not,” noted the official.
