97% of women in Moldova spend about five hours a day on household chores

In Moldova, 97% of the women are involved in domestic chores and spend about five hours a day on them daily. Slightly less than 83% of men do household chores, but they spend by 1 hour and 40 minutes less on them, shows a study by the National Bureau of Statistics, IPN reports.

On the other hand, the employed men work by 8 hours a day on average, by 37 minutes more than the employed women. Furthermore, the working men represents 40.3%, whole the working women 33.6%.

68.8% of the men take part in the social life and recreational activities, as against 64.9% of the women. Also, the men devote more time to the computer and hobbies than the women, the ratio being of 27.8%:20.7%.

The Moldovans sleep by 8 hours on average. A resident of Moldova spends 1 hour and 30 minutes on having meals. In most of the cases, the Moldovans eat at home.

Each tenth person is involved in a particular type of studies. The college students devote by about 7 hours a day to studies, while the persons studying for a master’s degree – only 4 hours a day. Only 0.6% of the population attends courses or studies something individually, on one’s own initiative.

Sports and other outdoor activities are forms of spending the free time for 20.3% of the Moldovans. They spend about 2 hours a day on them. 72.9% of them walk, especially the women (86.2%). The men also prefer to play with the ball (20.2% of the time devoted to physical exercises), while the women prefer fitness classes (6.8%).

The inhabitants of Moldova use about 2 hours and 30 minutes daily on reading, watching TV, and listening to radio/recordings. Only one in ten persons (11.6%) read the press and books daily, spending by 1 hour a day on this.

The study covered members of the selected households older than 10. It was carried out during 12 calendar months on a representative sample of 10,642 households nationwide.
