This requirement was made by the PM Vasile Tarlev who solicited that field’s state institutions should make efforts in order to attract foreign companies specialised in rebuilding country’s roads. The repairs are to begin in this year.
“The Government accepts the participation of foreign companies in the road reconstruction process because modern technologies and management could be attracted in this way. However, the staff who will be hired for these works should be Moldovan citizens at a minimum 95% proportion”, Tarlev said.
The Prime Minister mentioned that for the current year, the Government planned about MDL 1bln for the reconstruction of roads. He criticized the enterprises activating in the field, which, according to him, “left off the habit to work”. He mentioned that in 2006 of the resource allocated for road reconstruction, about MDL 28 mln have not been used.
Earlier, the transporters and road workers from Moldova have warned about the fact that Moldova lacks companies specialised in building roads. The Minister of Transports and Road Management, Miron Gagauz stated that the same reason will make difficult spending the sum of MDL 1 bln for reconstruction works. According to the minister the total cost of the Moldovan roads, estimated by experts is of USD 12 bln. About a half of the roads of Moldova are in a bad condition and require renovation.
