The bomb disposal engineers of the National Army in October disposed of 95 explosive devices and 1,469 cartridges of different calibers. Being called out, the engineers performed 17 demining operations in villages of the districts of Ștefan Vodă, Anenii Noi and Ungheni, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Defense.
Among the explosives was an aircraft bomb weighing 25 kg that was discovered in Puhăceni village of Anenii Noi district. It was neutralized by engineers of “Codru” Battalion led by Captain Anatolii Gudumac.
The same team disposed of 65 artery shells, 1,109 cartridges of different calibers and 12 antipersonnel mines found in a field in Răscăieți village of Ștefan Vodă district.
The Moldovan bomb disposal engineers also distinguished themselves during the Iraqi Freedom operation. In Iraq, they disposed of 400,000 different types of explosives. Moldova also took part in the post-conflict reconstruction operation in Iraq in 2003-2008 with over 107,000 general staff officers, members of the infantry and bomb disposal engineers. Moldovan military personnel were detached to Iraq to take part in a multinational operation staged under the UN’s mandate.
