The Turkish Republic celebrated the 91st anniversary of its foundation on October 29. On this occasion, the Embassy of Turkey in Chisinau held a reception. Ambassador Mehmet Selim Kartal read to those attending the congratulatory message sent by President Nicolae Timofti, who wished peace and prosperity to the Turkish people, IPN reports.

Turkey, during the 20 years of the establishment of bilateral relations with Moldova, the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement being signed on June 3, 1994, implemented a number of projects in the country. By the volume of investments in Moldova, Turkey ranks third. The economic and commercial relations between the two states developed considerably over the last few years. Trade amounted to almost US$537 million. After the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey was signed last month, the authorities said the goal is to increase trade to US$1 billion.

In his congratulatory message, Nicolae Timofti says that 2014 was a productive year for the bilateral relations between the two countries, including because the Agreement on the Abolition of Visas for Moldovans to Turkey took effect this year. “I’m firmly convinced that the relations of friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Turkey will continue to develop and will benefit both of the peoples in the future,” reads the message.

The festive evening ended with recitals by Turkish sopranos Çiğdem Önol, Funda Saltaş and Esin Talinli. Ambassador Mehmet Selim Kartal said the sopranos will give a concert at the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” at 6pm on October 30. Entrance is free of charge.

Turkey is now the 16th largest economy in the world and the sixth in Europe.
