860 children in Chișinău municipality not vaccinated against measles

In the municipality of Chișinău, there are 860 children - 611 students and 249 children of preschool age - who weren’t immunized against measles. The data were presented by the acting head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Rodica Guţu in the September 17 meeting of officials of Chișinău services bad divisions, IPN reports.

Nineteen children weren’t vaccinated for religious reasons. In the case of 329 children, the parents didn’t explain their decision, while the others invoked reasons related to disease.

In the meeting, Carolina Olaru, acting head of the General Social Assistance Division, said the ROR vaccination (against measles, mumps and rubella) rate in the municipality of Chisinau is below the norm (ROR 1 – 88.6%, ROR 2 – 82.4% and ROR 3 – 89.9%).

The National Public Health Agency said 282 cases of measles were confirmed in Moldova since the start of the year until September 15. A significant rise in the number of diseases was witnessed in August when a child from Ceadâr Lunga, who returned infected from a visit made to Ukraine, stayed at a summer camp in Morenii Noi village of Ungheni district, together with almost 100 persons who were mainly from southern Moldova. Currently, four suspect cases of measles are being examined.
