Over 83% of the elderly people eligible for additional support measures during the cold period of the year received the one-off financial aid in the amount of 3,000 lei. It goes to 47,083 persons born before 1945, who have a pension lower than 3,000 lei, IPN reports.
The initiative launched at the end of last year by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, the International Organization for Migration and the World Food Program, aims to cover the pressing needs of the vulnerable population during the winter season by granting a one-time payment of 3,000 lei or 5,000 lei, depending on the category.
The cash transfer is made by the World Food Program between December 2023 and February 2024 and eligible persons are notified via SMS that the money is available to be collected from post offices.
A total of 67,711 citizens from four vulnerable categories will benefit from the one-time cash payment. In addition to pensioners born before 1945, families who care for children with severe disabilities, members of families with people with disabilities employed as Personal Assistants and breastfeeding mothers with at least one child aged 0-13 months, who have received social assistance since October 2023, are also eligible. The total budget for these support measures is 226 million lei.
