The Balti-based center for information and support for young economists “Certitudine” discussed issued related to the European integration with 8,000 people. The center’s executive director Eugeniu Graur has told IPN that the project will last until October and its goal is to inform the young people about the benefits of the European integration.

The project envisions a number of information methods, including a weekly contest on the Facebook, where by one question is put and the people are asked to find the answer. The participants can win memory cards, flags and calendars with comprehensive information about the EU. The contest was launched recently on the Facebook page of the project “Solidarity for the European Union”. The number of participants increases with any question put and totals now over 280 participants.

“We also have a door-to-door campaign within which we go to people’s homes and stations and our volunteers distribute informative materials and brochures about the Association Agreement with the EU, calendars and other items.  We go through Balti and villages from the neighborhood and from other districts such as Rascani, Falesti and Telenesti. We saw that the people who do not deal with the European theme do not know much about the European integration. We printed calendars about the economic benefits and about the assistance provided by the EU to Moldova. We used a more comprehensible method. The people’s reactions are different. Some understand the benefits, while others have contradictory opinions,” said Eugeniu Graur.

The center for information and support for young economists “Certitudine” also informs the young people about the Erasmus Plus project launched by the EU. “We also have film screenings in lyceums, at universities and students hosts. These are educative films about the structure of the EU, its policies and economy. We also have films for children and will soon show them in schools,” said the director.

Eugeniu Graur added that the center stages activities for about 30 villages from northern Moldova. “We work with young people and saw that not many of them know about the EU and the benefits of the European integration. We had projects supported with foreign funds and made trips abroad and know what the EU means. Therefore, we decided to share this experience with the general public. In spring we plan to hold a news conference for students and want to also stage a cycling race centering on the European integration through a number of settlements,” he stated.

The center’s activities take place within the project “Solidarity for the European Union”, which forms part of the apolitical information campaign “Europe for You”. The project is possible owing to the generous support of the American people, provided through USAID within the Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society Program that is implemented by FHI 360.
