As many as 8 342 Ukrainian citizens asked for asylum in Moldova since the war started in Ukraine. The applications for asylum received by the Bureau for Migration and Asylum in the period are by over 90% higher than the number of similar applications in the corresponding period last year, IPN reports.
“Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine until present, the Bureau for Migration and Asylum, together with other institutions, managed to efficiently manage three temporary centers for foreigners situated close to the state border. Over 11,000 persons received assistance at these centers” the Bureau’s director Mihail Vodă stated in a news conference given at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Nonstop information assistance was offered by answering more than 47,000 calls made to the Bureau for Migration and Asylum’s hotline. During the past nine months, the Bureau has been outfitted with 18 motor vehicles for transporting applicants and for intervention.
A mobile application launched in March enables to reduce the waiting lines and to efficiently organize the time.
