79,000 persons received child birth and child care allowances in 2016

As many as 79,000 persons benefitted from child birth and child care benefits in the course of last year. The size of the lump-sum child birth allowance is the same for medically insured persons and for uninsured ones. In 2016, this was 3,100 lei at the birth of the first child and 3,400 lei at the birth of each next child, IPN reports.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the monthly child benefit differs for medically insured and for uninsured persons. This is 1,234.3 lei on average for insured persons and 540 lei for uninsured persons.

The children with disabilities represent the largest part of children who benefit from social welfare. In 2016, 11,700 children benefitted from such allowances, 43.5% of whom had severe disabilities. The average allowance for children with disabilities was 503 lei.

A number of 4,500 children received an allowance for the loss of the maintainer, which is of 402 lei.

In 2016, the minimum subsidence level for children was 1,703.8 lei. For children younger than one, the minimum subsidence level was 678.7 lei, for children aged between one and six – 1,466.8 lei, while for children aged between 7 and 17 - 1,930 lei.
