7,700 students from Chisinau to receive lump sum for school supplies

As many as 7,700 children from vulnerable families from Chisinau will benefit this year from a lump sum payment of 600 lei at the start of the new school year. In the August 9 meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, the head of the municipal population support fund Mihai Sorochin said the parents can take the money from any branch of Banca de Economii starting with August 11. They must present only the identity card, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the same meeting, Tatiana Butnaru, adviser with the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said the degree to which the education institutions in Chisinau and its suburbs are ready for the new school year will be assessed between August 24 and 26. Until then, the current and extensive repair works in a number of schools and kindergartens are to be finished. The traditional yearly teachers’ conference will take place on August 20. The school fair has been opened today in the square of the Cathedral located on Pushkin St. Vladimir Nirca, the head of the Division of Trade, Food and Service Provision, said similar fairs will be staged in other districts of Chisinau as well.
