Over 625 thousand pensioners will receive a 700 lei social aid on the eve of winter holidays. At the same time, the aid for the cold season is expected to increase from 350 to 500 lei, while the indexation of pensions, starting 2020, will be carried out twice a year. The welfare measures were presented on Monday, November 18, by President Igor Dodon, during a press conference, along with the Speaker of the Parliament, Zinaida Greceanii, and the Prime Minister Ion Chicu, IPN reports.

The head of state has said that meetings in such a format are to take place every Monday, when the most important initiatives to be launched will be announced.

"We made the decision to increase the social aid for the cold season from 350 to 500 lei and we extended the number of families who will benefit from it - from 170 thousand to 300 thousand," noted Igor Dodon.

The president also mentioned that, in the coming weeks, the law will be amended so as to guarantee the reception of pension for a period of five years in the case of the death of one of the spouses. Also, the monthly allowances for war veterans will be increased, from one hundred to three hundred lei. In all, there are more than 20 thousand beneficiaries.

The authorities also promise to raise benefits for the young specialists, doctors and pharmacists who will work in rural areas, from 45 thousand to 120 thousand lei. Starting next year, for more employees in the public sector, salaries will be increased on average by 10%, while for teachers and educators - by about 18%. Moreover, all budget sector employees shall receive in 2020– a yearly bonus in the amount of up to 50% of the current salary.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Zinaida Greceanîi, has mentioned that social initiatives will be supported in the legislature in the interest of the citizens, regardless of who they come from. Initiatives are to be endorsed by the Government and submitted to Parliament. Subsequently they should be included in the state budget. According to her, a priority is the passing of budget laws by the end of this year.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu has stated that the Government has prepared urgent measures to prepare the country for the winter season. On Thursday, the Commission for exceptional situations will be convened, where road safety will also be discussed. The prime minister has also said that at the end of last week, trips throughout the country have begun to examine the situation in terms of rehabilitation and construction of roads, etc.
