An employee of Penitentiary No. 5 of Cahul was arrested on influence peddling charges. He promised to help a man to obtain a driver’s license, category B, for a reward of €700, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center (NAC), the penitentiary’s employee said he has inference on members of the Cahul testing commission and can persuade them to favor him in the theory and practice tests.
The man faces two to seven years in jail or a fine for influence peddling.
In January, officers of the NAC carried out over 30 searches within criminal cases started over illegal obtaining of driver’s licenses. A driving instructor from Orhei and later an employee of the Public Services Agency were arrested and are now under investigation. In April, the head of a Chisinau driving school and two inferiors of this were arrested on suspicion that they formed part of an extensive corruption scheme that involved functionaries of the Public Services Agency, driving instructors and other intermediaries.
